Considered one of the most consistently growing programming languages, Python is an easy-to-learn, comprehensive language for those wishing to learn to program. You may be asking yourself, “I don’t want to be a programmer. Why should I learn a programming language like Python?” Well, I’m glad you asked. Here are a few reasons that someone should learn Python, even if you’re not a developer.
1. It’s fast to learn.
Python was actually the first programming language I learned and it only took me 5 days to learn the basics.
2. It’s easy to learn.
Because of the emphasis on the comprehensiveness and readability of Python, it’s extremely easy to learn for those who have little to no programming experience.
3. There are many resources to help you learn.
From courses at coding academies like Eleven Fifty to services like Pluralsight, there are a seemingly endless amount of resources available to help you learn out there.
4. There is an ever growing community for Python, especially in the Midwest.
According to data from Indeed.com, Python ranks 5th among all other programming languages based on number of jobs.
Groups, such as IndyPy have popped up all over the Midwest, holding monthly and annual meetups to collaborate on the latest in Python.
5. There are many practical uses for Python other than development.
This includes Web and Internet Development and scientific and numeric processes (such as data analysis and parallel computing).
A common application of Python is to create your own functions and processes in Excel in order to more efficiently and effectively synthesize or organize data.
6. Python can make you more money, and who couldn’t use a few extra bucks?
According to an article by ITWorld.com, adding Python as a skill to your resume added $7,100 to annual salary, on average.
If you do want to be a developer, since August of 2015, the average salary for a Python Developer has increased 6.3%, from $98,000 to $105,000.
Now go out there and start your Python career!
