Our Java cohort began their coding journey with us in September and their 9 weeks has flown by. As we do for every cohort, we ask some of the students questions about the program. Let’s see what they have to say:
What were you looking forward to the most when you began the program?
“Learning how to make programs.”
“Before the program, I was looking forward to learning a completely new skill. I was looking for an alternative to college and I thought this would be a logical choice for me.”
“Learning to code and building my soft skills.”
“Learning how different technologies work together.”
Tell us the most important thing you learned here.
“The most important thing I’ve learned here so far is how to create applications from scratch. Once I get a better understanding of how to deploy them, then that will be equally as important.”
“It would have to have been the ability to shift my way of thinking to fit more in line with a computer; to be able to think like a coder was the most important aspect I learned.”
“The most important thing I learned was the syntax for using Java.”
“How to work on a team when coding, how Java development works, and how to design a website that can be used for an application.”
What kept you motivated during the times you wanted to give up?
“My classmates have been a huge help to me when I feel like giving up. They are all supportive and understand exactly how I feel, so they know just what to say.”
“Knowing that there was always more to learn.”
“My fellow classmates helped me want to strive to either keep up with or surpass them, as well as my family who supported my goals. They also aided in the times when I simply needed to step away but never let me forget to go back at it.”
“Knowing that I had to keep going so I could get a job and provide for my family has kept me going through the hard times.”
What are you looking forward to the most after you graduate our program?
“After I graduate from this program, I’m looking forward to designing websites for people. Then, on the side, create games in my free time. Hopefully after five years, I’ll be able to release my games.”
“Getting an awesome career in technology!”
“As a woman, I am excited to get into the technology industry and show other girls that they can code, too. I want to inspire other girls to start coding because this was never something I thought I would ever do myself!”
“I am looking forward to utilizing the concepts in my future career.”
