Laid Off and Displaced: How the Tech Community Can Help Fill the Void

When our friends, family, and neighbors hurt, we all feel the impact.

The past week has been full of uncertainty for many in our community. The economic implications of COVID-19 will be significant, the full extent yet to be determined. Many restaurants and businesses will not be able to sustain the strain of this pandemic. Countless workers will be displaced, and unfortunately, we’re already seeing this hardship unfold.

To those facing struggle: we see you. We know this is a time of distress. The tech community is a beacon of opportunity and we hope to be a resource of guidance.

Now more than ever, Eleven Fifty Academy (a very fast-growing non-profit organization) is dedicated to impacting lives through cutting-edge tech education. We’ve been hard at work to make the required changes to keep people safe while still providing the same, life-changing opportunities to transform your career in just 90 days.

First, our bootcamp students now have the option to transition to an online-only experience, still with our “high touch” immersion formula of many instructors and learning assistants working with you in our virtual classroom.

Second, all of our FREE Intro courses are now online experiences. Intro to Coding and Intro to Cybersecurity classes are hands-on “dip your toe in the water” courses to allow you to explore both the pacing of an Eleven Fifty classroom and learn about the exciting opportunity that exists in high-demand tech fields. We highly encourage anyone remotely interested in technology and the Internet, no matter your background, to sign up for one of the available dates. We also encourage you to “pay it forward” by telling friends and family about the life-changing opportunities we offer. We make it easy and free to explore the options.

Finally, we’re excited to introduce our HTML & CSS for Beginners course, which will also be FREE and take place online. HTML and CSS are two building blocks to all of our digital experiences. The course will take place over three consecutive afternoons and will be offered to anyone who is curious about coding. No experience necessary.

If you think you don’t have what it takes to be a coder, it’s time to think again. Our students are diverse, from recent high school graduates to construction workers, elementary school teachers, and former career military professionals. Numerous members of our cohorts past and present have come from the same service professions experiencing extreme challenges at this time, including bartenders and waitstaff. The general instability of these jobs has often been a nudge for our students to explore stable, high-growth, and high-paying professions within the tech industry and beyond (just about every viable company is a tech company these days). Our intensive bootcamp experience helps motivated people transition to, and soon be thriving  in, new careers. If in doubt, we have hundreds of graduates from the past few years that you can speak with. Our graduates have amazing stories about their transformation and successes.

We also understand that considering a new path at this time can be scary, especially when it comes to the financial commitment of education. We believe in the power of tech education and the bootcamp immersion experience to change lives and livelihoods. That’s why numerous financial options are available, including a variety of scholarships to help ease the transition and potential burden. More than 95% of our students receive substantial financial aid. Many options do not require good credit, but ALL options require you to want to work harder than you ever have in order to affect your personal transformation.

Now is the time to choose resilience in the face of crisis. If seeking challenging, fast-paced, creative work; better pay opportunities; career flexibility, including remote work; to be part of a thriving ecosystem in our city and state—please reach out to us because classes fill up fast each month. Sign up for a free intro course, or schedule a complimentary online admissions coaching session with one of our team members to explore your possible paths, including software development, web development, and cybersecurity.

We look forward to helping you transform your future soon!
