Find out what determines a coding salary.

One of the biggest questions prospective students ask when touring and meeting with Eleven Fifty is, “what kind of coding salary can I expect after graduation?”. Answering this question isn’t cut and dry. We’d love to have the ability to tell these prospective students that they’ll be making X when they graduate, but there are a lot of different factors that play into a starting coding salary. To give you some indication of what will determine your coding salary, here are just a few things employers will consider:

The current demand for coders is a major factor in coding salary.

Right now, the market is hot. There are great opportunities for junior coders to get their foot in the door at some amazing, innovative companies. The real opportunity here lies in the fact that there are more job openings than there are coders. This gap in talent means that junior coders are able to find jobs quicker than others working in different career fields.

Employers are looking for coders with soft skills to back up their hard skills.

Hard skills are the coding skills you have. For example, knowing and understanding JavaScript is a hard skill. Soft skills are skills like teamwork, portfolio development, and understanding the agile development process. These are the skills that really set coders apart, which is exactly why we take the time to instill them in every student at Eleven Fifty.

It isn’t enough to understand one aspect of coding. You need to be a versatile coder.

If you only learn HTML, then you’re going to have a difficult time finding a coding job. You need to be versatile. You need to understand multiple languages. At Eleven Fifty, we work with our students to help them develop an understanding of multiple languages. Depending on the coding course, you could learn JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and more. The most beneficial part of your educational experience, though, would be that we set you up to be a life long learner. So, no matter the coding challenge or language, you’ll be able to solve the problems by teaching yourself.

Grit is one of the most important characteristics for a successful coder.

One of the things we look for in students, partly because it’s what employers look for in employees, is grit. This is one of those characteristics we try to teach, but you have to have some of it before your coding journey ever begins. You have to be resilient in your efforts and you have to be willing to put in the work and dedication to master new skills. If you’ve got grit, you’ll find that getting the coding salary you want and need are a little bit easier.

Eleven Fifty Academy is focused on developing you, the whole you.

When it comes down to it, your coding salary is going to depend on your experience, your skills, and your background. At Eleven Fifty, we’ve created the quickest path for you to reach your dream. Through our SmartStart programs, you can develop the skills, gain the experience, and build the background you need to becoming a coder.
